There’s More to Sustainability
Always working to reduce the environmental impact of commercial printing
We have always been conscious of the environmental impact of commercial printing and we continuously work to reduce our carbon footprint, maximize the utilization of materials to diminish waste and recycle as much as possible. We also pay attention to small details such as using all low-energy LED lights throughout the shop, which helps reduce our electricity consumption and provides superior lighting to review work. It is these kinds of details that help us ensure we do our share to protect our environment while delivering superior products.
We are also FSC-certified through the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) [https://us.fsc.org/en-us], an international certification and labeling system that guarantees the wood products we buy come from responsibly managed forests and verified recycled sources. FSC standards are globally recognized as the highest social and environmental standards in forestry. We are advocates of FSC since they stand for the following:
- Look after forests that are of high conservation value.
- Guarantees that harvested trees are replaced or allowed to regenerate naturally.
- Maintains the ecological functions of the forest.
- Shelters wildlife habitat and species.
- Respects the rights of indigenous people and local communities to use the forest.
On top of all that, we also only use full soy-based and water-based inks with non-toxic, low volatile organic compounds or VOC coatings. VOCs are solvents that get released into the air as the ink dries. VOCs can cause acute symptoms, including headaches and dizziness. The long-term effects are less certain, but according to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), some VOCs are suspected carcinogens. We simply don’t use such products to protect our employees and customers.
